Report: Eagles Won’t Let Jackson Go Without Something in Return

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson was overt about his desire for a longterm contract all through the 2011 season. Regardless of whether or not that will finally come to fruition with the Philadelphia Eagles is nevertheless really much in limbo.

The Philadelphia Inquirer, citing league sources, reported Sunday that the Eagles won’t let go of Jackson, whose contract is about to expire, without obtaining one thing in return. That would mean the Eagles are all but guaranteed to location the franchise tag on their Pro Bowl receiver if a deal isn’t reached by March 5, the deadline for teams to franchise players.

Debate: Best free of charge-agent wideout?

By franchising Jackson, the Eagles wouldn’t let him hit the open market and retain the selection to trade the fifth-year receiver.

The Inquirer, citing sources close to Jackson, also reported that he would be willing to sign the Eagles’ one-year tender worth roughly $ 9.five million (or almost $ 9 million a lot more than he earned last year).

Last month, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie mentioned he would welcome the controversial Jackson back to the Eagles “if the proper terms develop.”

Last season wasn’t just rocky for Jackson off the field with his contract dispute, but also on it, where his production slipped. Jackson had just 58 catches for 961 and 4 touchdowns. His 16.6 yards-per-catch average was practically 6 yards lower than his 2010 average of 22.five.

The Chargers struggled early but had been able to moved down the field. When Quarterback Phillip Rivers was pressured by the Arizona defense, he threw a beautiful pass to Tight End Antonio Gates. Eagles Sign Ex-Giant Steve Smith

Eagles sign ex Giant Steve Smith

The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t done signing free agents.

Wide receiver Steve Smith, formerly of the NFC East rival New York Giants, has signed with Philadelphia, the Eagles announced.

Details of the contract haven’t been announced, but it’s reportedly a one-year deal, and the Eagles apparently didn’t have to break the bank to get Smith, who may have thought his best chance at a major payday would come from signing with a good team now and then testing free agency again in March.

The Giants were interested in bringing Smith back, but they were also concerned that it would be a long time before Smith’s injured knee was sufficiently healed that he could return any time soon.

The Eagles’ medical staff apparently checked out Smith’s knee and had a more optimistic diagnosis than the Giants’ medical staff.

If Smith can contribute, he’ll be yet another outstanding free agency addition in Philadelphia. He had a sensational season in 2009, catching 107 passes for 1,220 yards and seven touchdowns, and he was off to a very good start in 2010 before catching just one pass in the second half of the season.

If everyone is healthy and ready to go, a receiving corps of Smith, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant would be one o the best in the NFL.
