DeAngelo Hall wanted to race a gold medalist
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 7, 2012, 7:01 AM EDT
Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall is both a fast runner and a trash talker, so perhaps this shouldn’t be surprising. But Hall had so much confidence in his speed that an Olympic gold medalist says Hall supplied him a six-figure bet for a footrace.
LaShawn Merritt, the reigning Olympic champion in the 400 meters, said in a Q&A at the IMG Academies website that Hall was itching to race him and was extremely confident he’d win.
“D-Hall is a trash talker, so of course he began talking that he could beat me in a race,” Merritt said. “I just won the gold medal so I wasn’t hearing any of it. He was going to place up $ 100,000 against my gold medal. He wanted to do a 40-yard dash, but we settled on the 100-meter. Nothing ever came of it, even though.”
As Sarah Kogod of the Washington Post points out, a gold medal is worth a lot less than $ 100,000, so that’s not a fantastic bet for Hall. More importantly, although Hall is quickly, he’s not Olympic gold medalist quickly. Hall is fortunate nothing ever came of this bet.

INDIAN OLIS — Plenty is unknown in Peyton Manning’s comeback from neck surgery.
But one factor is certain: It won’t fail because of lack of effort.
The quarterback has been throwing at an up-tempo pace given that mid-December, just before his attempt to return for the Indianapolis Colts’ final two games finally ended, as SI.com reported Wednesday. Manning threw in a post-practice setting with a group of receivers and running backs Dec. 14 as part of the rehabilitation approach.
One league source mentioned that to “describe it as a practice is incorrect.” The session was scripted by the Colts’ strength and conditioning coaches and Manning’s rehabilitation coordinator, with then-vice chairman Bill Polian, coach Jim Caldwell and offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen monitoring from the sideline.
According to the source, Manning was throwing at about percent” and didn’t seem impaired, although the players were constrained to an area inside the 25-yard line so the quarterback wouldn’t have to (or be tempted to) make a lot more taxing throws.
4 days right after the session, Polian announced that Manning wouldn’t play at all in the 2011 season. At the time, Polian stated Manning hadn’t “come far adequate to make it prudent for him to step on the field in game action.”
Physicians regularly told Colts officials to be careful in charting Manning’s progress throwing the ball, particularly after that perform in December. The physicians maintained that while Manning’s neck issue had cleared up, the difficulty with nerve regeneration remained, and there wasn’t a timetable for recovery in that region.

Sidney Rice says his decision to leave the Vikings for the Seahawks in free agency was created easier by the simple truth that he never thought the Vikings wanted him.
Rice says the Vikings told him during the 2010 season that they wanted him to return, but when it came time to provide a contract after the lockout ended, the Seahawks had been the team that really produced him feel like he was wanted.
“If you hear from them throughout the rest of the season telling you they are going to be in touch, are going to negotiate and it never happens, you’ve got to wonder – do they actually want me there or not?” Rice told the Pioneer Press. “I just didn’t really feel it. . . . It came down to Seattle showing me they wanted me to be a component of the program.”
Rice will see his old teammates when the Vikings play the Seahawks Saturday night, and he says there are no difficult feelings.
“I leave there with fond memories,” Rice mentioned. “I had a excellent time with the fans and my teammates.”
Even if Rice does not feel fantastic about not hearing from the front office on the way out.
