Most NFL GM’s and coaches like to use smokescreens on who their teams are seeking at in the draft. But not Bills GM Buddy Nix. Because Nix took the job as Bills GM, he has been a straight shooter with the media, and the fans. His most current instance of becoming a straight shooter, was backing up his claims of impending aggression in totally free agency by handing Mario Williams the richest contract ever given to an NFL defender.
Let us take a look at some of Nix’s quotes leading up to the NFL draft.
General 2012 NFL DRAFT/PHILOSOPHICAL OBSERVATIONS
“The a single thing we’ve been missing is playmakers. A guy that can make the distinction in the game. We’ve got excellent players. We do not have numerous of these guys.” (February 24)
“We can’t make it happen if it is not there, and that is the issue you’ve got to maintain in mind. If we go in and say ‘we’ve got to have a pass rusher,’ and we reach down and get one at the tenth pick that we’ve got graded in the third round, then we’re setting ourselves back 3 or 4 years… you’ve got to be disciplined enough that you remain with the integrity of all the function that 15 or 20 men and women have accomplished for a year, and you do not get excited by having to trying to fill a require with a player that can not play.” (March 1)
“I by no means have liked to, and I never have traded picks. I hate giving them up. I like to get them. We’ve got nine, and I’d like to wind up with ten, and we’ll see how that goes.” (March 1)
“I hate to give up a draft pick. If it’s a sixth-round choose, I don’t like giving them up. I assume you create on these issues.” (March 13)
“Chan’s philosophy, and ours, is put as several very good players as we can at every position, and let the greatest ones commence and play.” (March 21)
ON QUARTERBACK
“Perhaps so, yeah. If there’s one particular there at the correct time. I don’t mean it to be that vague of an answer, but yes, we’d take one particular.” (January 9)
ON WIDE RECEIVER
“There’s only a single Calvin Johnson, but there is some far more equivalent to that, that you throw it up there. They’re not covered when they are covered. We could use yet another big time receiver.” (January 9)
“We want somebody like (Roscoe Parrish) in that position.” (January 9)
“It’s deep. The wide receiver group is deep, and that is the reason you can not – you’ve got to be cautious at that position, since there’s guys out there.” (February 24)
“If you look at the most productive receivers in the NFL, they are guys that run somewhere between four.48 and four.55. In that range. They’re not guys that are four.32, and 4.two – I mean, all that is good. Every single now and then, (you get) a Mike Wallace. But once again, you’ve got to have guys that know how to run (routes) – look at (Stevie Johnson). He’s just got a knack for separating from a defender.” (February 24)
“I feel we’ve got good guys to go with him, and I believe Steve would tell you the same factor. We’ve got some talent. Everybody talks about speed on the other side away from him, deep speed – I mean we’ve got guys out there that can run. Now, it is a matter of keeping them healthful and keeping them on the field. It does not mean we will not sign yet another receiver, it doesn’t mean we will not draft 1. But I do feel we’ve got a excellent group.” (March five)
“Wide receiver… the numbers are there, no matter whether it really is in the draft or no matter whether it’s in cost-free agency. There is just a lot of them, and a lot more teams are utilizing much more, so you have got more guys that are subject to becoming cut and let go.” (March 13)
“We’ve got good receivers, and there’s a lot of them out there.” (March 15)
ON OFFENSIVE TACKLE
“(Erik Pears) is a proper tackle. He’s a excellent proper tackle and I’m glad we got him.” (January 9)
“Chris Hairston I feel can be a truly great left tackle. He’s a rookie. It really is going to take him a little bit. He got some great expertise this year… once more, I think with his length and all that, that Chris Hairston, he’s a intelligent guy, can play more than there and be serviceable for us.” (January 9)
“We’re going to draft a tackle if we can. If there is one particular there is what I mean. If there is 1 we think can play we’re going to draft a tackle. You can never ever have as well a lot of tackles.” (January 9)
“… it’s less difficult to move a guy from tackle to guard than it is from guard to tackle, clearly. We draft tackles and we are at pretty very good shape at guard and center.” (January 9)
“I think tackles – offensive tackles – (are deep).” (February 24)
“It’d be great to throw deep every now and then.” (February 24)
ON THE PASS RUSH
“… to repair it, I think our secondary – anything – would look far better if we had some pressure on the passer. If you can not disrupt passers in the NFL and make them get out of rhythm and make them move, any of them will put on you out. We had some rookies that looked like Dan Marino, and we let them look like that due to the fact we let them stand there. You’ve got to disrupt the quarterback.” (January 9)
“Defensively I would say the priority would have to be pass rushers, defensive ends, pass rushers – one possibly two.” (January 9)
“You mess about and you locate flaws in everyone, but I believe from the second round to the fifth, there is possibly a lot of potentially great players. You’ve got to get the right 1.” (February 24)
“Pass rusher – or defensive end for us – you get a little nervous with the tenth pick, but in the mid rounds, it is probably as deep as I’ve seen it. From the second round on, there will be some guys that can come in and help you rapid.” (March 1)
“The bottom line, actually: you have got to make yourself come back to production. If he’s usually done it, there’s a excellent likelihood he’ll do it again.” (March 1)
ON DEFENSIVE TACKLE
“Surprisingly, defensive linemen – the interior guys are truly deep, I think.” (February 24)
ON LINEBACKER
“We also at some point need to have one more linebacker. We got, we assume, Chris White. Kirk Morrison’s up, and I do not know what will happen with him, but we want an additional linebacker. We’ve got some guys that are ‘tweeners, sort of.” (January 9)
ON CORNERBACK
“… you could never have enough corners. We would like to add two corners, no matter whether it is through free of charge agency or whether or not it’s via the draft.” (January 9)
“Alabama’s secondary and LSU’s secondary. I mean, those guys are as excellent as it gets.” (January 9)
“I assume corner’s deep… there’ll be some corners out there that you can get in the middle rounds.” (February 24)
“I believe corners are really deep in this draft, and I think you can get one particular – you know, there’ll almost certainly be some worthy of the tenth pick, and there’ll be some in the mid rounds.” (March 1)
From reading all of Nix’s quotes, it sounds like the Bills would like to draft a Left Tackle, a WR in the construct of Calvin Johnson, a WR in the mold of Roscoe Parrish (minus the fragile body), an OLB, two CB’s, and a QB (if a QB they want is on the board when it is the Bills turn at the podium). Don’t anticipate the Bills to trade up, as Nix does not like to give up draft picks, but don’t be shocked to see the Bills trade back to obtain more picks. The Bills will take the BPA at #10 (if they do not trade down). Nix will not reach for a player, as he stated would set the team back three to four years (wish Donahoe and Marv Levy took this strategy).
We’ve got much less than two weeks to go till draft day. Whilst we know what positions Buddy Nix plans on addressing in the draft, it really is everyone’s guess what round these positions will be filled in.

A speech not as opposed to the one particular each defensive coordinator in the history of football has created just before a big game.
Hold in mind the 49ers are known to have named this a “body bag game.” The players know the score, even if the commissioner and a bunch of the fans want to hide their collective heads in the sand.
Wow man what a d*ck.. Dude is just evil.
Rather it was Pierre Thomas who was taken out by a helmet-to-helmet hit.
Oh yeah, absolutely nothing wrong with that. Absolutely nothing at all. Just a small incentive. All the teams do it. Right. Positive they do.
OK Saints fans … let’s see you justify this 1.
he is a pig. the who dat crowd really should be ashamed for trying to assistance this punk.
I recognize that football is going to test a player’s recovery for injuries as players go all-out to win, but to go out and order such certain hits, to try to end careers, it’s just sickening.
Sick, just flat out wrong. Williams should never ever set foot in a football locker area for the remainder of his life.
You’re damn proper I called the code red!!!
Goodell really should send a copy to the Louisiana Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs…
What a total douche. And the Saints’ fans will continue to say they had been also harshly punished? Give me a break.
There’s a huge distinction between becoming aggressive and being malicious. There’s no space in the game for a guy like this. Just make it official and slap a lifetime ban on him.
Wow. Just listened. What a D-Bag. There is your proof kool-aid drinkers.
Who paid Donte Whitner?
I knew it was negative.. but damn
Banned for life.
Actually surprised no a single in the locker space spoke out against this.
This guy is completed
That’s just also far.
Can’t wait for far more Saints fans to continue to claim that they’re still the victim in spite of this evidence.
All of you worthless TROLLS must have fun beating this dead horse!!!!! DISGUSTING!
Greg Williams, you are the weakest link!
Stuff like that opens pandora’s box for players injured by Saints suing in civil court…
What a mess, Greg Williams is gone for good, rightfully so..
Thank goodness the NFL brand is so strong it will polish away this blemish..
It’s a violent game, and folks will be injured. “The QB must go down difficult ” is portion of the game..but NOT with “attempt to injure” head and knee shots!
