Oliver has fairly a resume also when it comes to football and academics. According to Andrew Luck Locker, he is from Cleveland where his stellar quarterback play for St. Ignatius High School helped him win a scholarship to West Virginia University.
He did not get significantly playing time his freshman year, but got the beginning function the following year. His 1,292 yards and 8 touchdowns was a clear sign that he was a top rated tier quarterback. He had the ability to not only choose defenses apart with his arms but also with his legs. He complied more than 400 yards rushing with five touchdowns.
Oliver impressed men and women with his leadership on the field, but he was equally impressive in the classroom as shown by his two Academic All-American honors and becoming inducted into the Academic All-American Hall of Fame. He graduated magna cum laude with a quantity of other academic awards and honors.
In his junior year, Oliver’s 19 touchdowns set a new school record for most touchdowns thrown in a season. His senior season he lead his team to a bowl look: the Peach Bowl versus the Florida Gators. The game wasn’t even close. The final score was 26-6. He’d also set school passing records that year with 216 completions for nearly two,500 yards.
Oliver would hang up his cleats with his name on many school records. Some of them would sooner or later be surpasses later on, but he nonetheless remains extremely prominent in the leading ten list of several school passing records. His efficiency in college was sufficient to convince the Houston Oilers to draft him in the second round.
Even though his professional profession didn’t final quite long, he would move on to be profitable in varies management positions and would even run whole organizations such as the World League of America and the Houston Dynamo.
If you appear at Andrew, you can see numerous similarities to his father. Andrew is a premier student athlete. He was the class valedictorian when graduated from high school and had a perfect GPA. He chose to go to Stanford University simply because of the difficult academics. Luck is also a dual threat quarterback. He would break a lot of rushing records as a Stanford Cardinal.
Andrew has said that even though his dad hasn’t necessarily “coached” him, he was a significant influence in his life. Oliver taught Andrew several of the daily life fundamentals that helped him to mature into a respectable young man and great football quarterback

Ask former Bear’s GM Jerry Angelo why he was fired in the off season and he most likely would shove your microphone in your face. The elephant in the area is the fact that they did not have a backup QB on the roster who could win games and continue their playoff quest in 2011, amongst other factors. The truth that they were in a related situation a year earlier for the duration of Jay Cutler’s infamous “knee-gate” certainly did not support.
Possibly this scenario led the Washington Redskin’s war area to pick (two) QBs in this year’s draft, RGiii and Kirk Cousins, possibly putting to rest any worries of faltering down the stretch in a playoff race ought to the starter “go down” with injury.
The Bills present QB depth chart does not give the sense of confidence. The vice quarterback is Tyler Thigpen, who for the duration of his look in (3) games last season amassed an astonishing 6.eight quarterback rating (yes, the decimal point is appropriate). Jack of all trades Brad Smith rounds out the QB roster. I believed he threw a pass or two last season but the Bills official stat sheet shows that he did not make one passing try in the 2011 season.
Buddy Smith, because the Bills did not choose a rookie QB in the draft, what do you say about all this?
“We had been poised to draft 1, and he just wasn’t there,” Nix mentioned. “We’re gonna get one in free agency. We’re gonna bring in a quarterback, and we feel a great one.”
This is great news, due to the fact Buddy is in truth a “straight shooter”.
Unless this includes trolling the dumpsters for UDFAs (hopefully not) the list might not be all that appetizing. There might be some decent veterans cut as the teams that did draft QBs will no doubt do some roster editing. But once again, how excellent for how long could / would these players be?
Right here are the offered QBs at the moment up for sale-
8-year vet Kyle Boller.
Mark Brunell is willing to decline retirement for a year.
Rudy Carpenter is available.
How about Kerry Collins, Jake The Man, Dennis Dixon or Trent Edwards?
A. J. Feely anybody? Jeff Garcia!? Jon Kitna, JP Losman, Luke McCown, Donovan McNabb, Kevin O’Connell (not the radio announcer), Curtis Painter, Chadd Pennington (best so far, and that is not saying much), Billy Volek and…
Vince Young?????
Right after reading off that list, Brad Smith operating the spread offense a la’ Tim Tebow sounds like one thing watchable and exciting.
Having a decent backup on the Bills roster might be a problem worth getting with the Bills in an actual playoff hunt. Regrettably only (1) out of (4) starting QBs really make it through a full season.
No dessert for the Bills following this draft feast. Buddy’s watching his cholesterol.

Green Bay (NFL/Newsfeed) – The Green Bay Packers picked up a quarterback in the NFL draft, but it wasn’t Colt McCoy. Seventh-round pick B.J. Coleman is a guy the Packers will create for the future, but Graham Harrell is the backup of the present.
General manager Ted Thompson is not interested in bringing in a veteran to displace Harrell.
“I don’t feel you just say, ‘Hey, I want a veteran backup,’” coach Mike McCarthy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Saturday. “We have the MVP in Aaron Rodgers as our No. 1, and I really feel like we have, really, 3 candidates to compete for two spots, or possibly three.”
Make no error: Harrell is the No. two, with Coleman and former Arena Leaguer Nick Hill battling for the third spot. Rodgers has usually spoken about how confident he is that Harrell — a Texas Tech item — can deal with the job. Harrell was lightly believed of coming out of school, regarded as a “system QB” designed by Mike Leach.
Considering McCarthy’s track record developing quarterbacks, from Rodgers to Matt Flynn, we’ll give Harrell the benefit of the doubt.

Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur believes outstanding quarterback play “brings synergy to the whole team.”
The Browns’ choice of Brandon Weeden with their second first-round choose in the 2012 NFL Draft seemed to be irrefutable proof they no longer think Colt McCoy could give that synergy.
So what’s next? Shurmur was coy on the topic, and team president Mike Holmgren was similarly vague during a news conference Saturday.
“I like him a lot,” Holmgren mentioned of McCoy, according to The Plain Dealer. “He’s hard, but (we) nevertheless wanted to see if an individual else could be the man.”
Those have to be stinging words for McCoy, whose time in Cleveland clearly is up in spite of by no means receiving the support on offense that Weeden receives as he walks in the door with running back Trent Richardson.
“We felt we needed to establish the run in this city, this climate,” Holmgren said.
Holmgren believes McCoy can stay on the roster and compete with Weeden for a spot. Holmgren wasn’t intriguing in discussing any hypotheticals about McCoy’s future.
“I usually had four quarterbacks in camp when I was coaching,” Holmgren stated. “Of course, when you get to 52 players, that’s one thing else.
“I’m not going to speculate on something,” Holmgren added. “We’ll wait and see.”
1 other interesting note: The Browns had two short conversations with the Indianapolis Colts about the No. 1 overall choose and Andrew Luck. Holmgren mentioned 1 of the talks lasted 5 minutes.

NEW YORK — Peyton Manning is the Denver Broncos’ quarterback of the present. No 1 — not even Manning — understands how long his post-surgery reboot in the Rockies will final.
That’s why the Broncos chosen Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler with the No. 57 general pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
This constantly was the plan. Even when Tim Tebow was in town, the Broncos wanted to create a “traditional” quarterback for the future. Acquiring Manning doesn’t modify that.
“I don’t assume it’s one particular of those factors where Peyton Manning feels threatened by any stretch,” Broncos coach John Fox jokingly mentioned, according to The Associated Press. “All in all, I thought (Osweiler) is what you’re searching for in a prototypical quarterback. He’s the guy we liked that we think has a bright future in the future.”
Osweiler understands — and can’t wait to join the Broncos.
“I could not be any far more excited to be going to Denver to understand from Peyton Manning,” he stated in a conference call, according to The . “A lot of quarterbacks may be upset getting to sit behind someone, exactly where I look at it as a tremendous opportunity to understand from 1 of the very best, if not the finest to ever play the game.”
Osweiler mostly is identified for his height — he measures in at around 6-foot-7 — and his reside arm. He only started for one year, but he was extremely productive. He will need to have to operate on his footwork and mental aspects of his game.
“I’ll be ready to roll,” Osweiler stated. “Regardless of whatever the circumstance is this year, I’ll be prepared when my name gets called.”
He couldn’t have two far better quarterback tutors: John Elway and Manning. Hopefully, the kid doesn’t get intimidated.

PHILADELPHIA (NFL/Alper) – A meeting with Robert Griffin III and rumored interest in Ryan Tannehill and Peyton Manning have raised some suspicion that the Eagles are in the marketplace for a new beginning quarterback.
In a roundtable session with reporters on Thursday, General manager Howie Roseman addressed that as effectively as the associated subject of their satisfaction with their current quarterback. According to Roseman, there’s no adjust on the horizon under center.
“We have so considerably self-confidence in Michael Vick major our team,” Roseman mentioned, through the team’s internet site. “The way that he works and the determination he has, we’re all in with Michael. Michael is nevertheless a young quarterback. He looks great to me. He’s healthy and he’s determined. We really feel very fortunate to have him as our franchise quarterback.”
This isn’t the initial time that we’ve heard the Eagles say that Vick is the only quarterback they want to lead them in 2012. Given what it would price to move up to the leading of the draft and the lack of yet another viable beginning alternative on the roster, it doesn’t truly make much sense for them to say something else. Whether or not that implies they ignore the position by means of the draft is a various query, however.
It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see the Eagles take a quarterback they think can create over the next year or two. Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards aren’t players locked into roster spots, so there’s room for a young quarterback in Philly.

Peyton Manning starts perform at the Denver Broncos’ facility Monday when the team’s offseason program starts. In the brief term, the Broncos’ coaching staff really should be worried about keeping up with their new pupil.
But the organization continues to think extended term about what will happen in the post-Manning era. The Denver Post reports the team is bringing in Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins and San Diego State’s Ryan Lindley for pre-draft workouts this week.
The team also visited with Brock Osweiler last week. These aren’t just pre-draft smokescreens. We’d be quite shocked if the Broncos don’t take a quarterback in this draft, possibly as high as the second round.
Denver mentioned lots when it signed Caleb Hanie as Manning’s backup. That’s a sign that they were “all in” with Manning’s wellness, and that they planned to bring in a rookie to groom behind Manning. Hanie makes no sense with no another addition.
Don’t be surprised if Lindley, Osweiler, or Cousins winds up becoming that addition, and having the very best quarterback tutor imaginable as a rookie.
