 Patriots Dan Koppen carted off

The New England Patriots suffered a potentially serious blow to their offensive line on Monday night, as center Dan Koppen was carted off the field soon after suffering a leg injury.

Koppen was hurt in a pile-up on a quarterback sneak, and his leg bent awkwardly below him. He immediately screamed in discomfort, and players about him were waving for the medical staff to rush onto the field.

As Koppen rode to the locker room, players on both teams came over to wish him nicely, and their expressions suggested that everyone thought it was a severe injury.

Koppen is a nine-year veteran who’s been a starter because his rookie year in New England, and he has missed only one game in the last 5 years.

Backup Dan Connolly is now in at center for the Patriots, who lead 14-7 at halftime.

Rams Worst Moments Since 1987

Friday’s journey into the abyss of a franchise on PFT Live focused on the last 24 years of the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams.

It’s a video that almost certainly proved especially painful to our resident Rams rooter Evan Silva, which makes it even more enjoyable to do.

For a franchise with a recent title, there has been a lot of discomfort.  The team moved.  2007-2009 only included six wins.  Even the Greatest Show on Earth felt like it underachieved because of the Super Bowl against the Patriots and the ugly aftermath.

Okay, now we’re just rubbing it in.

Wes Welker Disappointed Owners Used Joke Against Him

Wes Welker disappointed owners used joke against him

Wes Welker has learned a lesson well identified to bloggers or fans of Twitter: Sarcasm doesn’t constantly translate in print.

Welker said he was joking when he told the Associated Press, “Let’s do a lockout every single year.”

“I said that as a joke and however they use it in the court of law,” Welker told WAAF, via Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com. “It was a little bit disappointing. It’s kind of discouraging they would really use that in the court of law, and you have to see it everywhere and things like that.

“Shoot, I guess the gloves are off, and they’re going after every thing,” Welker said, laughing. “You have to truly watch what you say, whether you are joking or not.”

As someone that uses sarcasm as the primary approach to interact with other humans, I feel Welker’s pain.  But the reality is that a lot of players do like the lockout, even if most are careful not to say it publicly.

Most, not all.

Lions receivers Nate Burleson and Calvin Johnson both admitted this week they are enjoying time away from the team.  Welker, on the other hand, sounds like he’s obtaining frustrated.

“I’m a fan myself. Even looking at it [like that], it practically seems stupid. I know fans sit there and it is billionaires and millionaires … fighting over cash I don’t believe the average fan wants to sit there and hear about that,” Welker said. “I know I don’t and I’m part of the scenario.”
