Plaxico Thinks NFL Teams Are “Crazy” Not to Sign Tiki
Posted on 30 September 2011.

Former Giants teammates Plaxico Burress and Tiki Barber both tried to get back into the NFL right after lengthy absences this season. Burress was welcomed back with open arms and signed with the Jets. Barber was largely ignored and has been described as devastated and flabbergasted that no one will sign him.
It turns out that Burress is flabbergasted that no 1 will sign Barber, too.
“It’s crazy,” Burress told the New York Post of Barber’s failure to locate a team. “He’s greater than half the backs in the league.”
It is accurate that when Barber and Burress last played together — in 2006 — Barber was much better than half the backs in the league. You could make a case that Barber, who topped 2,000 yards from scrimmage in each of his last three seasons, was much better than all the other backs in the league. But it is 2011 now, and the notion that Barber, at age 36, is still far better than half the backs in the league is farfetched.
Nonetheless, Burress holds out hope for his old teammate.
“I’m really surprised he’s not on somebody’s roster,” Burress said. “But it is just Week 4. Maybe somebody will call him.”
That’s doubtful. The Dolphins called him in for a workout, and soon after acquiring a appear at Barber declined to bring him into training camp. And no other team has even gone so far as to kick the tires on Tiki. If any NFL team believed Burress may be proper that Barber is better than half the backs in the league proper now, Barber would be in the league proper now.

Panthers Owner Says He’s Not Worried About Cam Newton Missing Practice Time
Posted on 29 May 2011.

As the month in which most of the annual offseason work takes place reaches a conclusion, a slew of young players — which includes 4 first-round rookie quarterbacks — have had no access to their facilities or coaching staffs or any of the issues that an NFL team does now to lay the foundation for September.
Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, 1 of the men leading the charge for a management-friendly CBA, says he’s not worried about the truth that his 1st-round quarterback, also the 1st overall pick in the draft, hasn’t been able to prepare like initial-round quarterbacks usually prepare. “The Panthers are going to be like everybody else and [Newton's] going to be like everybody else, so we all have to adjust and deal with what we have to deal with,” Richardson stated at the ownership meetings, per Pro Football Weekly. “I’m not genuinely overly stressed out about it, personally.”
Though Newton has been putting in a lot of hours with budding quarterback guru Chris Weinke, some would say that it is no replacement for acquiring to know his new coaches — and for giving his new coaches a chance to get to know him.
“We’re all playing by the exact same rules,” Richardson stated. “If we weren’t, then it would be a various deal.”
He’s right, but he’s also wrong. Though every single team need to deal with the rules of the lockout, only a handful of franchises could be attempting to slap together preparations for a season on the fly with new coaches, new quarterbacks, and/or new coordinators.
The Panthers, 49ers, Titans, Browns, and Vikings specifically will be at a substantial disadvantage. But we do not expect Richardson to acknowledge that. He and his other difficult-line partners have decided to push for the deal they want regardless of the short-term consequences — even if those short-term consequences mean that, given small chance to get ready for some football in 2011, their own teams will suck.

Redskins Release Clinton Portis
Posted on 01 March 2011.
It is very unlikely that you will see an NFL team pay million to a running back who has played in just 13 games in the past two seasons, has run for just three touchdowns and less than 750 yards during that time, and will turn 30 before the scheduled start of the following season.
And it won’t be happening to the Washington Redskins. They cut Clinton Portis on Monday, ending their seven-year relationship, one that left Portis just 648 yards shy of one of Hall of Famer John Riggins’ franchise record.
Portis’ contract called for the Redskins to pay him million over the next three seasons, including .254 million for 2011. But the team decided that would be way too much cash spent on a running back with 2,230 carries in his career.
Portis played in just five games in 2010. A torn groin muscle ruined his hopes of a more productive year. FANTASY ANALYSIS: I don’t think Portis is done as he looked impressive at times when he was actually playing last season. He suffered the groin injury in week four at Philadelphia, but he looked surprisingly fresh in that game before going down. He’ll have to find a place, probably as a backup, for much less money. Keiland Williams, James Davis and Ryan Torain remain on Washington’s RB depth chart. The Redskins will certainly be looking to add somebody to the mix.
