In what amounts to a surprise, University of Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins has decided to remain in school. Jenkins played most, if not all of his 2010 season with a torn labrum injury. Early reports indicated that Jenkins would leave school early and they may have been true, but ultimately Jenkins likely had a change of heart. Jenkins released a statement saying, “After careful consideration, I’ve made a decision to return to school for my senior year,” Jenkins said in a statement released by the school. “I spent some time with my family and Coach (Will) Muschamp and came to the conclusion it was in my best interest to return to school. Coach Muschamp was very supportive throughout the whole process, regardless of my decision, but he wanted to make sure I had all of the facts. I’m looking forward to working towards my degree, completing my rehab and getting back on the field with my teammates.” FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is definitely a questionable decision. Jenkins has projected as the No. 3 or 4 cornerback in the draft and was considered a first round lock in the 2011 NFL Draft. By returning to school, it is of course possible Jenkins may be a Top 10 pick in next year’s draft but with a rookie pay scale on the table, he may not be able to make up that guaranteed money. In my 2011 NFL Mock Draft here at FFToolbox, Jenkins is projected to be drafted at No. 13 by the Detroit Lions. There are a number of teams in the NFL who are thin at cornerback, making his position in high demand. This makes this decision even more puzzling but it’s his choice, not ours.

University of Illinois linebacker Martez Wilson has decided to forgo his final season of college eligibility and has declared for the 2011 NFL Draft. When speaking to ESPNChicago.com, Wilson said,”I know I can get better but I’m ready to make this move.I can play inside or outside. I will be a versatile NFL player. College has been a great experience and I’ve matured greatly. I appreciate what I have now and I’ve been making good decisions.” Wilson is a fast, explosive defender who has received a ton of hype in his amateur career. He was a first-team All-Big Ten player and will graduate in May. Illinois could also lose two other underclassmen, running back Mikel Leshoure and defensive tackle Corey Liuget to the draft. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Wilson likely made a good decision. There are plenty of pass rushing linebackers in this class, but it’s lacking in pure OLBs and ILBs. Wilson can play either spot and if a team is looking at ILB, he’s definitely a top 3 prospect at that position. Wilson finished this year with 111 total tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. He finds a way to make plays all over the field. In my 2011 NFL Mock Draft, Wilson is projected to be selected by the St. Louis Rams in the second round, the 47th overall pick. His teammate, Leshoure, is expected to declare for the draft while there are no reports indicating what Liuget might do at this time.

Virginia Tech running backs Darren Evans and Ryan Williams both had planned to announce their 2011 NFL Draft decisions on Thursday. Evans declared for the draft after rushing for 854 yards and 11 touchdowns as part of a three-back rotation. Williams on the other hand remains undecided. Evans was told by the NFC Draft Advisory Board that he would be selected from rounds 4 to 7. Evans rebounded well after missing the entire 2009 season with a torn ACL. As for Williams, he overcame a hamstring injury this season but only managed 447 rushing yards on the year. But, Williams heard 1st or 2nd round from the Advisory Board. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Evans and Williams helped lead the Virginia Tech Hokies to a 11-3 overall record. It was a tough start and end to their season. Tech had two opening losses to Boise State and JMU then lost in the Orange Bowl to Stanford. In between that, the Hokies rolled off 11 straight wins, including a 9-0 record against the ACC. For Evans, he has a child and a family to take care off. This likely helped push his decision toward the NFL. With Williams, he appears to be skeptical that he can still be drafted in the first or second-round considering his injury and poor production on the season. In my 2011 NFL Mock Draft, Williams is selected at No. 16 in the first round to the Miami Dolphins. I do not have Evans selected, since the Mock is only the first two rounds, while I project Evans closer to late round five.

Indiana University wide receiver Tandon Doss has declared early for the 2011 NFL Draft. Doss is expected to go in “the first three rounds” according to the NFL Draft Advisory board. He had 63 receptions for 706 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He finished fourth in the nation with 175.8 all-purpose yards per game. “While my experience at Indiana was great, my decision came down to the fact that I could not pass up the opportunity to start my professional career,” Doss said. “Entering the NFL Draft was the best decision for myself, and most importantly, my family. My experience at IU was great and helped lay the foundation for my future. I can assure you that I will work hard and represent Indiana University in a first-class manner.” FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Draft Advisory board was probably a bit too kind to Doss. While he did overachieve at a poor football school in his career, Doss doesn’t have the physical measureables that really jump out. The underlying problem for wide receivers is coaching staffs are usually willing to reach for one or two prospects per year in the first round. Teams prefer waiting until Day 2 or 3 of the draft to make a move on a receiver. This year’s receiver class is also very deep with players like A.J. Green, Justin Blackmon, Julio Jones, Torrey Smith, Michael Floyd, just to name a few. In my 2011 NFL Mock Draft, I do not have Doss selected in the first two rounds. He is a better fit as a late-third, early-fourth round pick.
