Colts Expected to Part Ways with Manning After 14 Seasons

The ending that most anticipated among the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning will arrive on Wednesday, according to league sources, when the team is expected to release the four-time NFL MVP.

The team has made preliminary plans for the news conference Wednesday to officially announce the move.

The Colts are awaiting the final word from owner Jim Irsay, who has been out of town at meetings, but the expectation is they will go forward with the release and the press conference. Manning and Irsay will each travel from Florida to Indianapolis on Wednesday, possibly together, according to NFL Network’s Albert Breer.

The move has been widely expected, as the rebuilding Colts owe Manning, the 1st general choose in the 1998 NFL Draft, a $ 28 million bonus if he is on the team’s roster at the commence of the league year. Manning will turn into a free of charge agent instantly.

As far back as late January, Manning, 35, said he had no plans to retire following missing the entire 2011 season following four procedures to repair two vertebrae in his neck. His most recent surgery on Sept. 9, a cervical neck fusion procedure, was intended to repair a damaged nerve in Manning’s neck that brought on weakness in his throwing arm.

Those close to Manning have maintained his desire to continue his career regardless of concerns that nerves in his arm had not been healing and had been prohibiting his throwing. Manning has been throwing because December, and 4 sources with understanding of his rehab approach lately told Breer that Manning has steadily regained strength in his grip and triceps.

To that finish, Manning took portion in an aggressive throwing session at Duke University on Friday in which the quarterback was filmed throwing deep balls in a Colts jersey and helmet.

A video posted late Friday on YouTube was confirmed to be Manning throwing to receivers.

Irsay had publicly stated in February that the team would welcome Manning back, but only on a restructured contract that reflected the uncertainty of the quarterback’s recovery.

The Colts hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and Irsay has stated the team would draft a quarterback whether or not or not Manning was healthy.

Sergio Kindle’s Agent Expects a Short-term Deal

Sergio Kindles agent expects a short term deal

Sergio Kindle, the Ravens’ very first pick in the 2010 NFL draft, signed just a one-year deal with the team right after suffering a severe head injury in a fall down a flight of stairs. Now Kindle is lastly cleared to play, but he’s not expecting a lengthy-term contract.

Kindle’s agent, Joel Segal, told Vinny Cerrato and Ken Weinman on 105.7 The Fan that a lengthy-term deal isn’t in the cards.

“No, I do not believe we’ll do long-term right now,” Segal said. “Once Sergio shows he’s the Sergio Kindle who was the special player at Texas, that he’s healthy, that he’s ready to roll, the difference-maker that we know he will be if he’s healthy, I believe at that point, hopefully, we’ll have a conversation.”

Segal described Kindle as “extra hungry” and “ready to go.” But that doesn’t mean he’s ready for the kind of contract he would have signed last year, if he had been healthy.

Matthew Stafford Plans to Play “16 Games or More”

Matthew Stafford plans to play 16 games or more

Matthew Stafford, the oft-injured quarterback who has played 13 games and missed 19 games given that the Lions chose him initial overall in the 2009 NFL draft, says he expects to play every typical-season game in 2011. And perhaps some playoff games, too.

“I’m excited about No. 1 becoming healthy going into the year and hopefully playing all 16 games or a lot more,” Stafford told the Detroit Free of charge Press. “We have all the core guys, significant guys, coming back, which is excellent, and we’ve added some new guys.”

Stafford has been throwing with some of the Lions’ receivers and says his surgically repaired shoulder is 100 percent healed.

“I feel great,” Stafford said. “Healthwise, I feel as good as I ever have, so I’m ready to go.”

So Stafford will be ready to play a full season. As long as the NFL has a full season to play.

Bengals Go with a.J. Green at No. 4

Carson Palmer wants out of Cincinnati, and Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco are probably on their way out as well, regardless of what they want. The Bengals could have taken a quarterback but they filled their obvious void at wide receiver during Thursday’s NFL draft. The Bengals selected Georgia wideout A.J. Green with the fourth overall pick. The 6-foot-3-inch, 211-pound Green caught 57 passes for 848 yards and nine touchdowns last season despite missing four games. He was a second-team All-American. Over his three-year career at UGA, he ranks third in yards and receptions and second in touchdowns. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Green has everything you want in a go-to wide receiver outside of blazing speed. He’s got great size, body control, hands and route-running skills. He’s fairly physical, very competitive and won’t kill your offense as a blocker. In all, he’s the real deal. If Green played with a Rivers or Brees, there’s no doubt his fantasy stock would be very high in year one. But there’s a reason why the Bengals had the No. 4 pick in this draft, and a lot of it had to do with poor play at QB. As with almost any NFL wide receiver, a lot of Green’s fantasy value depends who’s throwing the ball to him. Right now, it would be Carson Palmer. That’s definitely a sketchy, fluid situation. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bengals go after a QB early in Friday’s second round. So immediate evaluation of Green’s fantasy value for 2011 remains on hold. If Palmer does play in Cincy this year, I guess it could be worse for Green. The 37-year-old Owens tallied nine touchdowns and close to 1,000 yards with Palmer last season.
