HOUSTON — NFL owners have awarded the 2015 Super Bowl to the Phoenix area.
It will be the third time the area has hosted the game, which will be played in Glendale, Ariz. The Super Bowl also was held at University of Phoenix Stadium in 2008, when the Giants beat the Patriots 17-14. Tempe, Ariz., hosted the game in 1996, with Dallas defeating Pittsburgh 27-17.
The Arizona committee screamed in delight when the announcement was produced Tuesday.
Phoenix beat the Tampa region in the bidding on the second ballot. Tampa has hosted the game in 1984, 1991, 2001 and 2009.
Next year’s game is in Indianapolis, followed by New Orleans in 2013 and the New York/New Jersey area in 2014.
The owners also announced that the 2014 Super Bowl in New York/New Jersey has been moved up to Feb. two so as not to conflict with the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The 2015 game is the 49th Super Bowl.

When the Titans visit the Jaguars on September 11, Tennessee tailback Chris Johnson will be present. The only question left is whether or not sufficient other folks will be present to permit the game to be televised.
As of Tuesday, much more than 10,000 unsold non-premium tickets remained. Per Jacksonville Organization Journal (by way of SportsBusiness Daily), the Jags decided to give away free of charge tickets to Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Rams to anybody who bought tickets to the Week One game, on a 1-for-1 basis.
The size of the dent that the promotion created isn’t yet identified. Regardless of the number of unsold seats, the Jaguars are optimistic (in contrast to the Bucs) that the tickets will be sold.
“The last factor we want is the 1st regular season game to be blacked out,” Mackey Weaver, the team’s Vice President of Marketing and Sales, told ActionNewsJax.com. “With the 9/11 significance of the game and the hated Tennessee Titans as the opponent, we’re going to have a massive rally here.”
That’s what makes the looming blackouts for both the Bucs and Jaguars (and the Dolphins in Week Two) even much more troubling. These are house openers, and intriguing matchups. The Jags host a division rival, the Bucs host the Detroit’s new darlings of the NFL, and the Dolphins host the high-powered Houston offense.
The late Sam Kinison employed to say that starving men and women in Third World countries really should live where the food is. To be as productive as probable, the NFL ultimately will have to move teams to where the men and women — and thus the money — are.

When the Browns host the Eagles on Thursday night, defensive tackle Mike Patterson will make his preseason debut, more than three weeks right after suffering a seizure in the course of practice.
Doctors diagnosed Patterson as having a tangle of blood vessels in his brain. Initially, it was reported that he’d undergo surgery or radiation remedies.
Patterson has given that returned to practice, and he’ll suit up and play in less than two days.
“I can’t tell you how significantly he’s going to play, but we’ll just see how issues go,” coach Andy Reid mentioned Tuesday, via comments distributed by the team. “He’s had a excellent week of practice and he’s prepared to go.”
Reid stated that Patterson’s total plays likely will be restricted.
“He was out 18 days or so, and he’s been back for the 4 here,” Reid mentioned. “He kept himself in very good shape, but again we’ll treat him like it’s the 1st preseason game that he’s played. A little bit like I did with DeSean [Jackson] last week. Just limit his reps and see how he’s doing. Communicate with him in the course of the game, see how he’s feeling.”
It is fantastic news for Patterson and for the Eagles as they prepare for a Week 1 trip to St. Louis.

Somehow lost (at least by us) in the public griping by Steelers safety Ryan Clark regarding certain aspects of the new CBA is the reality that Clark and radio host Joe Bendel almost came to blows at training camp on Wednesday.
According to Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Evaluation, the trouble began following Bendel asked Clark no matter whether his complaints against Commissioner Roger Goodell and the owners typically apply to Steelers owner Art Rooney, II.
The situation thereafter escalated, and a member of the Steelers P.R. staff along with safety Will Allen had to defuse the scenario.
Given that the personal conduct policy also encompasses workplace violence, it would be ironic (and possibly fitting) if Clark were investigated and ultimately disciplined under the individual conduct policy for expressing his feelings about the private conduct policy.
Though Steelers players often make excellent points about the league’s present procedures for fines arising from on-field and off-field conduct, the manner in which they express those views often undermines their position. If they could find out how to communicate their beliefs without using gay slurs, without having failing to comprehend the procedures presently in location, and without having allowing their emotions to almost lead to violence, more folks would listen to what they have to say.
