1 day following Bills running back Fred Jackson got upset about playing behind C.J. Spiller, Bills coach Chan Gailey has assured Jackson of his beginning role with the team.
Jackson said he had a “productive talk” with Gailey. Jackson will remain the team’s starter. It sounds like he is a little upset with his contract too, which has long been one of the much more team-friendly deals in football.
“I didn’t know what was going on and I like to be told exactly where I stand and not type of have to guess about it,” Jackson said by way of the Related Press. “We will see how issues pan out.”
It’s telling and ultimately wise Gailey swiftly moved to quiet the situation down. At this stage, Jackson is the superior player to Spiller, who just hasn’t performed nicely in games but. Even Spiller seems to understand it.
“Fred, he’s carried out verified himself,” Spiller stated. “Fred has nothing else he needs to prove to anybody. I’m just a guy trying to find out of what he’s accomplished.”
Buffalo is going to roll with a two-man backfield, like most teams this year. It sounds like Jackson will be leading the way.

Former USC coach Pete Carroll hasn’t precisely been rounding up former Trojans following returning to the NFL. If something, he’s alienating them.
It started last year, when safety Taylor Mays sounded off on Carroll, claiming that he had indicated that Mays would be picked by the Seahawks with their second selection in round one. The Seahawks instead took Texas safety Earl Thomas.
Because then, Carroll has had two chances to sign Heisman winner Matt Leinart, and a shot at trading for Heisman winner Reggie Bush. In each circumstances, Carroll passed.
Likewise, Carroll had (and still has) a clear shot at former Trojans receiver Steve Smith (the 1 who played via 2010 for the Giants), but Carroll opted instead for a guy who went to the other USC.
Most recently, former Trojan linebacker Lofa Tatupu, who preceded Carroll to Seattle, desires out.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Tatupu requested his release right after the team asked him to take a pay cut. Per Schefter, the Seahawks plan to comply.
A three-time Pro Bowler to begin his career, Tatupu has fallen off in the second three seasons of his six-year career.

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t changing their tune on Carson Palmer.
Bengals owner Mike Brown told Albert Breer of NFL Network that he hopes to have Palmer back and won’t trade him, but that if Palmer follows by means of on a threat to retire rather than return to Cincinnati, the Bengals are prepared to turn to rookie Andy Dalton, the 35th pick in the draft.
“We do not plan to trade Carson,” Brown said. “He’s essential to us. He’s a really fine player, and we do want him to come back. If he chooses not to, he’d retire. And we would go with Andy Dalton, the younger player we drafted, who’s a good prospect. Ideally, we’d have both of them. That’d be the greatest way to go forward. If we don’t have Carson, we’ll go with Andy.”
Brown sang the praises of Dalton, describing him as a rookie who could be ready to begin from Day 1.
“He’s extremely football intelligent, he’s been with our coaches, and Jay Gruden, our coordinator,” Brown said. “Jay had a very very good feeling about his football abilities, his abilities to comprehend the defenses and how to go about issues. He’d been productive at the college level, and we think he has a very good shot at it here.”
If Brown actually feels that way about Dalton, however, it’s tough to see why he’s so steadfast in his refusal to trade Palmer. The Bengals appear to be ready to move on with Dalton as their starting quarterback, so why not try to bolster the roster by obtaining some thing for Palmer in a trade?
The question is moot until the lockout ends, but at the moment, Brown clearly doesn’t want Palmer to believe he’ll have any other choices besides Cincinnati and retirement.
