Rex Ryan Is Already Giving Fiery Speeches Again

Rex Ryan is already giving fiery speeches again

Although we wait for the NFLPA* Executive Committee to start (and finish) their meeting Monday, we have perhaps the clearest sign yet that football is coming back.

Rex Ryan is already trying to rally the troops again.

Ryan delivered a “fiery, training camp-kind speech” to 150 Jets staffers on Monday morning in New Jersey, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.

Ryan spoke soon after Jets owner Woody Johnson, who promised all staffers that lost wages would be repaid by the team right away.

That news is expected, but welcome. We anticipate to hear teams around the league to make the very same pledge to those staffers who were unfairly punished this offseason by owners who didn’t properly prepare for the lockout.

Vikings Player Rep Predicts “Good News” Tomorrow

Vikings player rep predicts good news tomorrow

Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson, who serves as the team’s representative to the NFLPA*, shared an intriguing — and encouraging — observation with Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Stated Hutchinson:  “I think there will be some good news coming out tomorrow.”

Hutchinson’s remarks come amid rampant reports that the NFLPA* Executive Committee and then the board of player representatives (such as Hutchinson) will vote Monday to recommend acceptance of the labor deal passed by the owners last week, presumably with some tweaking.

It’s widely believed that, if the Executive Committee and the board of player representatives vote to suggest the deal, the players overwhelming will vote to accept it.

Notwithstanding the optimism, Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco earlier characterized the reports of a looming deal as the figment of the media’s imagination.

“Can we not seeing [sic] what the media is doing?” Ochocinco mentioned on Twitter.  “Hype up a deal will be completed n when it is not it further angers the public perception of players!!!!”

Apparently, this is one circumstance in which Ochocinco’s media business, OCNN, has missed the boat.  Or, perhaps much more accurately, the plane to Washington on which the members of the Executive Committee reportedly are flying.

Broncos Executive Elway Learning Ropes of Draft in New Role

Now, John Elway is on the other side of the NFL draft. In 1983, he didn’t want to play for Bob Irsay’s Baltimore Colts and coach Frank Kush, and the former Stanford multi-sport star had some leverage as a farmhand of the New York Yankees. So, he engineered his departure to Denver, where he led the Broncos to five Super Bowls and two championships.
