Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga was reportedly involved in a bar fight more than the weekend in which he injured the club’s manager, according to WXIX-Tv on Thursday.
Sammy Laham, manager at Luxe, said the incident occurred as the downtown Cincinnati bar was closing.
“One of them stated one thing at which point I repeated myself, that they had to leave, and then Rey Maualuga got up, took 3 or 4 steps and punched me in the face, more noticeably the eye, then my nose began to bleed,” Laham told the station. “Then safety diffused the situation.”
Maualuga has not been charged as police continue to investigate the incident.
“Our safety went more than to see what was going on, to break them up, and Sammy went over as properly, and Rey was leaning up against the bar and he stepped forward and swung,” Luxe employee Brittany Knight stated. “At initial I didn’t see who it was simply because I was standing a tiny further back until I saw my manager walk by and I saw his eye and it was bleeding and cut up. He stated, ‘I can’t think I just got hit’ and I was shocked with my mouth to the ground.”
If Maualuga is charged, it would mark the linebacker’s second violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy in two years, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Thursday.
Maualuga’s agent, Gary Uberstine, spoke with the player and later refused comment to WXIX-Television.

Although it’s unknown precisely when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will issue a ruling on the appeal of Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s five-game suspension, a source with information of the scenario tells us that Pryor’s camp anticipates that some thing could be decided in the next few days.
Normally, the league lets players know about suspensions (or non-suspensions) by Tuesday, considering that full-blown practice preparations for the next game commence on Wednesday.
The former Ohio State quarterback’s 5-game ban arises from the manner in which he became eligible for the 2011 supplemental draft, but comments in Goodell’s August 18 letter informing Pryor of the suspension made clear the league’s concern relating to incoming players who have violated NCAA regulations.
The Colts’ choice to suspend former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel six games confirms that the league can and will erect barriers to players and coaches who break NCAA rules.

As I walked into the Carolina Panthers’ facility Friday, I bumped into second-year quarterback Jimmy Clausen in the team parking lot. We both arrived around 7:25 a.m. ET. By all accounts, he was one of the first — if not the first — players here.

Former New York Giants Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress is to get out of prison in June, after officials agreed Friday to shave about three months off his time behind bars in a gun case. A committee of prison-system staffers decided Burress was eligible for time off for good behavior, so he can be freed after serving about 21 months of his two-year sentence, system spokeswoman Linda Foglia said.

The post-Super Bowl doldrums are upon us, as football season is now as far away as it gets. The prospect of a lockout potentially pushing that back further makes this year's football-withdrawal depression that much worse.
Fear not, because I think a new NFL labor deal will get done around the first week of March. Despite the posturing and doom-and-gloom predictions of gridlock into the summer, …

University of Florida safety Will Hill has decided to forgo his senior season in Gainesville, Florida and has declared himself eligible for the 2011 NFL Draft. Hill told Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post his intentions to declare early despite the fact that the University of Florida has not confirmed this news yet. When it came to making his decision, Hill said, “It took a while to come to that conclusion, but the thing that made me come out and try to go pro is I have a family,” Hill told Lieser. “It’s a priority of mine to help my family. I have little ones to look after. I feel like this was best decision for me and them.” Recently, Hill’s teammate cornerback Janoris Jenkins made the announcement that he would return to Florida when it was presumed both he and Hill would come out together. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Considering his situation, Hill likely made the best decision for him. Although he is unlikely to go in the first round, he would be a very good pick-up in round two or three. His draft stock has gone down a bit but Hill has stated that he played while injured this season. Florida is currently in a state of flux. Urban Meyer stepped down as head coach and Florida went 8-5 which was their lowest win total since 2004 (Meyer took over the following year as head coach). If Florida continued to struggle, it would only work to make Hill look even worse. And obviously, with three children to support, it’s time to move on.

On the Colts’ biggest play of the year, a third-and-six from the Jets’ 32-yard line with 1:02 left, Peyton Manning rolled out to his right. Indiana University wide receiver Tandon Doss has declared early for the 2011 NFL Draft. Doss is expected to go in “the first three rounds” according to the NFL Draft Advisory board. He had 63 receptions for 706 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He finished fourth in the nation with 175.8 all-purpose yards per game. “While my experience at Indiana was great, my decision came down to the fact that I could not pass up the opportunity to start my professional career,” Doss said. “Entering the NFL Draft was the best decision for myself, and most importantly, my family. My experience at IU was great and helped lay the foundation for my future. I can assure you that I will work hard and represent Indiana University in a first-class manner.” FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Draft Advisory board was probably a bit too kind to Doss. While he did overachieve at a poor football school in his career, Doss doesn’t have the physical measureables that really jump out. The underlying problem for wide receivers is coaching staffs are usually willing to reach for one or two prospects per year in the first round. Teams prefer waiting until Day 2 or 3 of the draft to make a move on a receiver. This year’s receiver class is also very deep with players like A.J. Green, Justin Blackmon, Julio Jones, Torrey Smith, Michael Floyd, just to name a few. In my 2011 NFL Mock Draft, I do not have Doss selected in the first two rounds. He is a better fit as a late-third, early-fourth round pick.
