The developer of a proposed $ 1.1 billion football stadium in downtown Los Angeles said Tuesday that there is a limit to how extended his group is prepared to wait to full the project.

AEG president and CEO Tim Leiweke told ESPN that AEG could be ready to begin construction on Farmers Field by March 2013 if all goes properly, but after that the clock is ticking.

Debate: The worst NFL uniform is …

“We have clauses in our agreement with Farmers that if we don’t have a team playing in the stadium by a particular date, they are no longer obligated on that naming correct deal,” Leiweke said. “More importantly, with (AEG chairman) Mr. (Philip) Anschutz, when you tie up that sort of capital and resources that we’re tying up, when you spend $ 27 million on the atmosphere report and an additional $ 45 million in design drawings, what you’re not going to do is chase this for the subsequent two years. It distracts from our organizatio, and it distracts this city and every little thing we’re undertaking right here.”

An additional reason for the urgency: A bill passed last year by California’s Legislature that expedites legal challenges to the stadium expires in January 2015.

“What I’m going to inform you is we won’t be sitting right here in February 2016 nevertheless chasing Farmers Field,” Leiweke told ESPN.

Leiweke told the Los Angeles Instances on Monday that Anschutz is willing to purchase a full ownership stake in an NFL team to facilitate the process. The newspaper also reported that the environmental influence report on AEG’s proposed downtown internet site is set to be released Thursday.

Giants’ Rolle on Pack: ‘I Don’t Put Any Opponent on a Pedestal’

Back in early December, Antrel Rolle generated yawns when he boldly labeled his Giants a playoff team in the making.

On the heels of a 4-game losing streak, the riffing safety appeared to be just an additional mouthy New York defender promising far more than his team could deliver.

Funny thing is, Rolle was right. In a blur, the Giants won the NFC East and, in the approach, morphed into a team nobody wants to deal with in January.

Next up: Green Bay and the 15-1 Packers in Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff matchup. And Rolle is nonetheless talking.

“To me, it’s another game,” he told The Connected Press. “I don’t put any opponent on a pedestal. I understand they have a lot of weapons on this team and they are an great opponent, and so are we.

“… We’re a various team right now. We realize that and we’re going to maintain that concentrate and maintain that drive. We’re going to keep playing at that same level and we’re going to pick it up a bit. We’re coming in here expecting to win this game that is going to be our mindset and remain our thoughts set. No 1 is going to tear that away from us.”

Playing in Green Bay in January remains a enormous headache for opponents, but the Giants are just four seasons removed from unseating the Packers at Lambeau in the NFC title game en route to winning the Super Bowl. Repeating that feat will be a tall order this time around, but even if we’re staring at the end of the road for Rolle and the Giants, his words can be taken more seriously.

Orlovsky, Colts Still Fighting: ‘We Don’t Know Any Other Way’

If Thursday night’s victory over the Texans upset a subset of Colts fans hoping to secure the best overall pick in April’s draft, don’t anticipate the players to apologize.

Colts quarterback Dan Orlovsky’s game-winning touchdown strike to Reggie Wayne with 19 seconds left lifted Indy to 2-13 on the season, bringing the Vikings and Rams back into the picture for the draft’s No. 1 prize.

“I assume we all know the situation, but we’re all in the NFL,” Orlovsky told “The Dan Patrick Show” on Friday. “… By the way we play, you can tell we don’t care about that, we just want to go out and compete and give ourselves a opportunity to win a game.”

Some argue the Colts imperiled their future for meaningless thrills, but that theory ignores the mind-set of NFL players, who are trained to take the season game-by-game, with every confrontation viewed as an critical opportunity.

Mentioned Orlovsky: “I can comprehend … everyone saying, you know, ‘Is it worth the win?,’ every little thing like that, but to the 53 guys in the locker space, any time we step on the field, we’re representing ourselves and our households — we’re playing for our jobs and our livelihoods — and we’re out there competing, we don’t know any other way.”

The Colts haven’t lost their grip on the best pick, but a win over the Jaguars in Week 17 would make things intriguing. Either way, this significantly is clear: draftniks and futurists don’t play into the equation. The Colts players and coaches haven’t stopped fighting.
