Tom Brady was prepared to lend a helping hand to the New England Patriots.
Brady restructured his contract, the Boston Herald reported Thursday, citing NFL Players Association documents.
By redoing his deal on March 16, Brady freed up roughly $ 7.2 million in cap space to assist the team in free agency.
Given that Brady’s restructure, the Patriots have been busy in cost-free agency, signing Brandon Lloyd, Donte Stallworth, Dan Connolly, Daniel Fells, Trevor Scott, Marquice Cole, Anthony Gonzalez, Will Allen, and Robert Gallery.
Brady signed a four-year, $ 72 million extension in 2010 and was set to earn $ 5.75 million in base salary in 2012. Under this restructured contract, the figure is now $ 950,000.

On Wednesday, Patriots defensive tackle Kyle Really like served as the voice for many when he proclaimed he was sick of Tebowmania.
“I can’t speak for everybody, I can just speak for myself, I can say that it does (get old) for me,” Adore said. “It gets to the point exactly where you get tired of hearing it. You just have to maintain your Tv off if you don’t.”
Broncos tight end Daniel Fells made it clear negative comments like Really like’s come across their way into Denver’s locker space.
“I enjoy listening to individuals hate on us,” Fells stated Wednesday, according to ESPN.com. “I mean, you can hate if you want to, but we’re nonetheless here and we’re moving forward. The a lot more you hate, the far more we feed off of it.”
The Broncos snapped a 3-game losing streak with their upset victory over the Steelers in the wild-card round. Several experts give the Broncos a far slimmer likelihood of winning in the divisional round against the Patriots.
That’s just fine with Fells.
“I like becoming the underdog,” he said, “because no one’s giving you a likelihood and you get to prove absolutely everyone wrong — just like we have all year.”
