Browns quarterback Colt McCoy has nevertheless has not been cleared to practice following a concussion, making it likely that Seneca Wallace will make his second straight start off for Cleveland.
Browns coach Pat Shurmur told reporters Tuesday that Wallace would “more than likely” start off Saturday in Baltimore and would continue to take the first-team reps in practice, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
But Shurmur was non-committal about McCoy’s availability for this weekend and would not rule out McCoy from playing in Cleveland’s final two games. He said McCoy was at team headquarters today and went by means of meetings, but he won’t stay at facility rest of day to he could go home to rest. Shurmur did not know if McCoy has visited any specialists while his symptoms have lingered.
McCoy, who has not spoken to the media given that obtaining hurt, sustained the concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit by Steelers linebacker James Harrison 12 days ago. His concussion and the Browns’ handling of the injury has prompted the league to think about modifications to their policies on concussions.
Shurmur stated WR Joshua Cribbs (groin) participated in a walkthrough Tuesday and fullback Owen Marecic (concussion) would also practice, whilst wide receiver Jordan Norwood (concussion) and linebacker Benjamin Jacobs (concussion) would be held out, according to reports.
The Browns also placed linebacker Titus Brown and tight finish Alex Smith on injured reserve Tuesday, and signed totally free agent tight finish Dan Gronkowski and promoted linebacker Brian Smith to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. Smith sustained a “significant” shoulder injury on against Arizona, but Shurmur says the versatile player will not want surgery. Shurmur says Brown will undergo surgery on his injured knee.
The team also signed wide receiver Torrey Grissett and linebacker Craig Robertson to the practice squad.
