Tom Cable is headed home. Jeremy Bates is looking for a new one. Leave it to Pete Carroll to keep things interesting around Seattle Seahawks headquarters just two days after their season ended. Carroll and the Seahawks fired Bates, the team’s offensive coordinator, on Tuesday morning, ending a rocky one-year return to the NFL for Bates during which the Seahawks ranked among the worst offenses in…

Despite leading the Raiders to an undefeated mark in the AFC West and to their first non-losing season in eight years, Tom Cable is out in Oakland. On Tuesday, the team decided to not pick up Cable’s option for next season, meaning that Oakland is in the hunt for a new head coach. And according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Raiders have found one in their own backyard. Via sources, offensive coordinator Hue Jackson will take over at the helm.
Cable went 17-27 in a little less than three full seasons as head coach. Cable’s Raiders went 5-11 in 2008 and 2009, which were an improvement from the team’s win total from the preceding three years: four, two and four, respectively. The Raiders went 8-8 this season, their highest win total since they won 11 games in 2002 and went to the Super Bowl.
“The Raiders express gratitude to Tom Cable for his contributions in his four seasons as an assistant and as head coach of the Silver and Black,” the team said in a statement. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Jackson seems to be the guy that owner Al Davis and a lot of beat writers like as a replacement. His hiring should mean a lot more of Darren McFadden and Michael Bush next season. Cable got a raw deal here, but he should land somewhere else quickly.
