Jets receiver Plaxico Burress, who twisted an ankle many days ago working out with new teammate Santonio Holmes, isn’t ready to practice. But he found a way to get at least 1 rep in the course of 11-on-11 drills Sunday.
He jumped in with out telling the coaches.
“I was attempting to sneak in, but me being [6-foot-5] it didn’t function out too properly,” Burress stated, via Jane McManus of ESPNNewYork.com.
When coach Rex Ryan saw Burress, coach Rex Ryan told Burress to get out.
“He fundamentally told me ‘Hey, it was a good start, we do not want any setbacks,’” Burress said. “If they wouldn’t have took me out, I would’ve kept on going. It was my first time out there in a couple years. It just felt good to kind of get back in the groove but Rex shut me down.”
“I want to proceed truly cautiously here,” Ryan stated. “I do not want to do too much with him. But he’s moving around good.”
Burress could practice Monday, and he could play next Monday when the Jets face the Texans in their mutual preseason opener.
