Packers Offensive Coordinator Philbin’s 21-Year-Old Son Found

Staff of the Green Bay Packers were informed Monday that the body of the 21-year-old son of Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin was identified in a river in Oshkosh, Wis., and identified, reports NFL Network’s Albert Breer.

Authorities had been searching for Michael T. Philbin a day following he was reported missing following a night out with friends. He was last heard from around two a.m. Sunday and was reported missing by pals at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, according to Oshkosh Police spokesman Joseph Nichols.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy addressed the circumstance in the course of his weekly news conference, saying the team has a “family initial organization.” McCarthy said Philbin was in Oshkosh on Monday, and that the team had contingency plans in spot if Philbin couldn’t be with the team this week.

“We’re supporting Joe and his family members the best we can, and we’re holding out hope that this comes to a positive conclusion,” McCarthy stated before the team was notified the body was found.

Michael Philbin had traveled from his home in Ripon to Oshkosh to meet friends, Nichols said. They went out together in the campus location Saturday evening, but Philbin apparently chose to stay behind when the group decided to move on to one more establishment, he said.

Philbin created a cell phone call to one of his pals at two a.m. but didn’t say exactly where he was, Nichols stated. Philbin didn’t sound as if he was under duress or suffering from any medical troubles and the call ended amicably, Nichols stated.

But he by no means returned to get his auto on Sunday and never ever tried to make contact with anyone, prompting the call to police, Nichols said.

Investigators had checked video surveillance from campus-location establishments and contacted the county jail and area hospitals in hopes of locating him. Attempts to track his cell telephone were unsuccessful and police in Ripon, about 20 miles away, turned up absolutely nothing when they went to his house, Nichols stated.

Sheriff’s deputies had been searching into a report of cries for assist from the Fox River, but investigators had not established any links to the Philbin disappearance, Nichols stated. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department said divers had been looking for somebody who apparently fell via the ice.

The disappearance comes as the Packers prepare to face the New York Giants in an NFC divisional playoff game Sunday in Green Bay and his father is a candidate for several head-coaching openings. Joe Philbin has interviewed for coaching positions with the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.

Joe Philbin has been with the Packers considering that 2003 and has been the team’s offensive coordinator because 2007. He interviewed for the Dolphins’ vacant head coaching job last week.
